Gunther Reflects on Nearly Quitting Pro Wrestling
Former Ring General Reveals Dark Time in Career
From Day Job to WWE Success
WWE Superstar Gunther recently opened up about a challenging period in his career when he considered quitting pro wrestling. In an interview with CBS Sports, the 36-year-old revealed that a decade before becoming a top star, he was wrestling only on weekends while working a day job with night shifts.
Gunther, whose real name is Walter Hahn, explained that he was at a crossroads in his life. He had been pursuing a career in wrestling for several years, but the financial burden was taking its toll. He reached a point where he questioned whether it was worth continuing his dream.
However, Gunther's determination eventually prevailed. He decided to stick with wrestling, but it was not an easy journey. He had to work long hours, often going from his night shifts at his day job straight to wrestling shows.
"It was a very tough time," Gunther told CBS Sports. "There were times when I was so tired, I thought about just giving up. But I knew that if I gave up, I would never forgive myself."
Gunther's perseverance paid off. In 2019, he signed a contract with WWE and quickly rose through the ranks. He became the NXT UK Champion and eventually made his way to the main roster, where he has become one of WWE's most respected and feared competitors.
Looking back on his journey, Gunther is grateful that he never gave up on his dream. He credits his success to his determination and the support of his family and friends.
"I'm living proof that anything is possible if you never give up on your dreams," Gunther said. "No matter how hard things get, always believe in yourself."
