WNBA Injury Update: Liz Cambage to Miss Season with Torn ACL

What Happened?

Las Vegas Aces star Liz Cambage has torn her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and will miss the entire 2023 WNBA season. The injury occurred during a scrimmage on April 12th, 2023.

Cambage, a two-time Olympic medalist and four-time WNBA All-Star, was expected to be a key player for the Aces this season. She averaged 18.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game in 2022.

Impact on the Aces

Cambage's injury is a major blow to the Aces, who were considered one of the favorites to win the WNBA championship this season. The Aces will now have to rely on other players to step up in her absence.

Some of the players who could see increased roles include:

  • A'ja Wilson
  • Kelsey Plum
  • Chelsea Gray

Cambage's Recovery

Cambage is expected to undergo surgery on her knee soon. The recovery time for an ACL tear is typically 6-9 months, so it is likely that Cambage will not be able to return to the court until the 2024 season.

In a statement, Cambage said that she is "devastated" by the injury but is "determined to come back stronger than ever." She also thanked the Aces organization for their support.
